my little l.a.m.b.

Here is the photo I promised of my new purse.

I needed a new one desperately because I’d had my old Coach one for like 4 years. It was definitely time to move on. The number one reason why I love this bag is because I can put stuff in and take stuff out of it without having to move a buncha crap out of the way. The mouth of the purse is wide and there’s a ton of space. I’ve been trying to think of stuff that I should be carrying with me so it’s not so empty.

I’m usually not a big fan of gold accents but it works in this case. Plus there isn’t a lot of it. Everybody knows I love plaid and while this purse doesn’t have that it does have a great green, yellow and blue lamb print. Gwen Stefani is a genius!

life upgrade: new car edition

Feb 11, 2008 Author: Valli | Filed under: Home Life, Life in General

Dashboard I must say that I had a pretty awesome weekend. I went shopping for a much needed new purse and ended up buying one plus a new car! I had been thinking about getting a new car for some time now. It came about mostly because I was thinking about how I could do the NASCAR road trip and I didn’t want to attempt it in my old car because it was getting older. So there was that plus the fact that I really, really wanted a car with a navigation system and an outlet for my iPod.

I checked out the 2008 Volkswagen Eos online and found that it met my base criteria and then some. It has a convertible hardtop with sunroof, butt warmers (heated seats), leather interior, digital displays, power seats & windows and Sirius satellite radio. It doesn’t stop there either! I’m not going to list all the stuff, but let’s just say I love this car a lot! It also signifies a step-up for me, I think of this as my “grown-up” car. Just looking at me people think that I’m still in high school and I don’t think my old Matrix was helping to combat that impression. I was driving the Eos today and I actually got looks from dudes — guys my age! So that’s a step in the right direction. :)

Oh and about my purse, I love it too! It’s by L.A.M.B., Gwen Stefani’s fashion line. It’s super sophisticated and chic. It’s also super practical — it’s sooo much easier to get stuff in and out of it. I might post a photo of that later. Until then enjoy photos of my new “baby,” I still need to figure out a name for her. I’m leaning towards Aurora only because Eos is the greek goddess of the dawn and Aurora is the Latin name for Eos. But I dunno. In my Google search I found this: “Eos had an unquenchable desire for handsome young men, some say as the result of a curse laid upon her by the goddess Aphrodite.” That’s high-larious! This is the perfect car for me! :) haha.

obsession of the month: wedding photographer blogs

Feb 6, 2008 Author: Valli | Filed under: Life in General

I’m as single as any human being could possibly be and yet I’m obsessed with looking at wedding photos. It all started with Jeff Ascough’s blog. He’s this insanely talented photographer from the UK and I love his work. I stumbled upon his site somehow some many months ago and I’ve been hooked ever since. If I were to marry Prince William I would definitely hire Mr. Ascough to shoot it. In one of his posts he mentioned that be recently bought a new camera bag made by fellow photographer Jessica Claire. She’s from here in the US of A and I love her site. She does great work; everything is bright, colorful, sometimes quirky and sometimes romantic.

That’s where things started to go crazy. I signed up for a subscription to Ms. Claire’s feed and then my Google Reader decided to recommend other wedding photographer blogs to me that I couldn’t help but add to my collection. So now I’m up to five wedding photographers.

I love great photography and I love seeing what people did for their weddings — what they wore, what the color scheme was, were their centerpieces lame or not, etc.

top 10 most romantic songs

Feb 1, 2008 Author: Valli | Filed under: Music

Here’s my list in no particular order:

1.) “First Day of My Life” by Bright Eyes (I’m Wide Awake It’s Morning)
If you read my older post about the video for this song you already knew I love this song. It’s quirky, sweet and realistic. It doesn’t make huge, grand promises. Favorite lines:”So if you wanna be with me, with these things there is no telling, we just have to wait and see, but I’d rather be working for a paycheck, than waiting to win the lottery” — “Besides maybe this time is different, I really think you like me”

2.) “To You I Bestow” by Mundy (Romeo + Juliet Soundtrack)
From the “Romeo + Juliet” movie soundtrack, this song wrecks me every time I hear it. Who wouldn’t love a guy who wants to buy me a crown? Favorite line: “and my love for you is better than diamonds, to you everything I bestow”

3.) “Close My Eyes” by Jordan Knight (Jordan Knight)
I love this song as a whole; there isn’t one particular line that totally gets me. It’s just a great song, sung well.

4.) “If You Could Only See” by Tonic (Lemon Parade)
The passion in Emerson Hart’s voice when he sings this song is particularly on point. As a music lover I need to hear you mean it, and I love the way he sings this song. It’s beautiful. The thing I love so much about this song, the thing that I find particularly romantic is that I’m imagining this guy just pouring his heart out about this person that he loves so much. It makes me want to say “I believe you, I believe you!” I want someone that’ll say “if you could only see how blue brown her eyes can be when she says/when she says she loves me” hehe :)

Oh and it’s not uncommon for me to repeat the line “you gotta take a little dirt to keep what you love/it’s what ya gotta do” in my head whenever times get tough.

5.) “Anna Begins” by Counting Crows (August & Everything After)
These guys are by far one of the few bands that are near and dear to my heart. I was in high school when I bought this CD and well it helped me through some of those clichéd moments in adolescence. Anyway, I think I like this song so much because of the conflict, the back and forth in the lyrics. It’s just sweet.

6.) “Lover Lay Down” by Dave Matthews Band (Under The Table And Dreaming)
I remember keeping this song on repeat and listening to it at night when I went to bed. I think I was like 14, 15 at the time. You cannot deny that this song is so freaking romantic. Are there guys that can be this gentle and sweet in real life?? Favorite line: “Kiss me oh won’t you kiss me now/And sleep I would inside your mouth”

7.) “Look After You” by The Fray (How To Save A Life)
Another guy with a pure and unique voice is the lead singer of The Fray, Isaac Slade. I could listen to him sing forever and never get tired of it. Hearing him croon the words “oh, oh oh, be my baby, i’ll look after you” is like medicine for my heart. Okay that was a little dramatic but it’s true in the sense that it just makes you feel good. I want that. Favorite line: “Will you want to be the one I’ll always know?”

8.) “Save Me” by Hanson (This Time Around)
Ok, before you start giving me crap for liking Hanson you should really listen to this song (and the whole CD). There is a ton of passion in Taylor Hanson’s voice and for a long time listening to this song wrecked me. I had a serious physical reaction to it. It’s soo good.

9.) “Everything” by Lifehouse (No Name Face)
I think it was Jamie who said that they could or probably were singing about God in this song but I chose to believe he was singing about his true love, a woman. I just love the line “How can I stand here with you and not be moved by you,” but there are soo many others in this song. This is a must listen, I mean it’s so good that I think it should be played at weddings.

10.) “Sandalwood” by Lisa Loeb & Nine Stories (Tails)
If I could sing and play the guitar I would cover this song in a heartbeat. I love it because it’s so simple, soft and to the point. Favorite line: “She can’t tell me that all of the love songs have been written, ’cause she’s never been in love with you before”

never saw it coming

I just found out that actor Heath Ledger has died, apparently of a drug overdose.

I am in complete shock and I am so sad. I just watched “Brokeback Mountain” for the second time over the weekend, with my mom, it was her first time seeing it. He did such a wonderful job in that role. He was such a talented actor. This is indeed a tragedy. And I think it hurts just a little bit more because he was from my generation.

Reminds me of the way I felt when I heard that River Phoenix was dead. All that talent gone to waste. I just wish people could face whatever their demons are and move through it, instead of letting it ruin their lives.

UPDATE: Okay, so it wasn’t drugs, thank god. It seems kinda creepie say that I’m glad that it wasn’t drugs, ’cause either way he’s still dead. But I’m glad that it’s looking like it wasn’t another “typical” Hollywood-related tragedy. So now this reminds me of when Nikki Taylor’s sister Krissie died from her asthma inhaler.
